We have all had to face some form of difficulty or another and it takes a lot of courage to overcome our challenges. But the good news is that we often come out stronger on the other side.
For David Francisco, one of the most difficult ordeals he ever had to experience was being paralyzed from the waist down after he was hit by a car while riding his bike.
The incident was devastating for David, who thought he had lost everything including his dream of pursuing music.
I thought everything’s over. Music’s over. Relationships are over. I cried every single day for months.
After a while, David became determined to pull himself out of his pain. He even decided to forgive the distracted driver as he focused on healing himself inside out. He began to undergo physical therapy in hopes of getting his body up and running again.
One night, he noticed his foot moving and he took it as a sign to keep going. Since then his body has improved and his faith was restored.
As fate would have it, he met the love of his life. Christie was a childhood friend who reconnected with him to let him know that he was not fighting his fight alone. The happy couple recently got married and Christie was very instrumental in helping David get back his love for music.
His big break came when he got the chance to audition for American Idol. His crutches supported him as he walked to the stage. After sharing his incredible story, he began to sing 'Isn't She Lovely' by Stevie Wonder.
By the time he was done singing, judge Katy Perry was openly weeping and fellow judge Lionel Richie was emotional when he said to David, "You are an inspiration to us all.”
Truly, he gave a very moving performance. David is one of those people whose story will always remind us that we can get through anything.
