'I Didn't Leave The House!' George Clooney Opens Up About The First Time He Met Amal
Love can ignite anytime, anywhere. That's its beauty, really. You just never know where you'll meet someone that will change your life forever. It could be at a party, on the street or, in George Clooney's case, right in your very own home.
The 56-year-old actor is finally giving us some insight into his relationship with Amal. The couple, who are now married and parents to 7-month-old twins, Ella and Alexander, actually met at Clooney's home.
The actor recently appeared on 'My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman' where he talked about his relationship and how it all came to be.
“I didn’t leave the house,” he said in a clip from the episode which aired on January 31. Clooney said he was at his house in July 2013 when Amal passed by with a mutual friend.
At the time, Clooney did not know anything about Amal. But the friend suspected that the two might hit it off. So, he made sure to give the actor a heads-up.
I got a call from my agent who said, ‘I met this woman who is coming to your house, who you’re going to marry.' It really worked out that way.
Clooney went on to say that his parents were visiting at the time, so they all talked when Amal came over. The couple did not immediately start dating. They exchanged email addresses and they sent emails to each other for a while.
They talked for weeks afterwards before they saw each other again. During that time, they got to know one another by sharing stories about each other's lives. This was how they became close.
The rest, as they say, is history.
After dating for several months, Clooney went down on one knee and proposed to his lady during a romantic evening at home on April 28, 2014. While they were enjoying some champagne after dinner, Clooney asked Amal to get a lighter from a drawer so he could light a candle. She opened the drawer and instead of a lighter, she found a ring.
She’s like, ‘Holy s—!' And she just kept staring at the ring, going, ‘Oh, my God.’ It was 20 minutes of me on my knee, waiting for her to say yes, because she was so shocked.
The couple tied the knot in September 2014. Then they decided they wanted to expand their family. What they did not expect was that they would be having twins. Amal got pregnant naturally without using fertility drugs.
[The doctor] goes, ‘Well, there’s one.’ And I said, ‘Great.’ And then he goes, ‘And there’s the second one.’ And I was like, ‘What?’
The babies were born on June 6, 2017. Their arrival certainly left an impression on the actor.
You know, everything is conceptual until it’s real. It’s like, ‘Yeah, we’re going to be parents, yeah.’ And all of a sudden you go: ‘Holy s—. I’m a parent!’
For the most part, Clooney and his wife try to keep their family life private. In fact, we are yet to see any photos of their twin babies. But one thing is for sure, this couple is a Hollywood fairytale and we wish them nothing but the best.
