Will It Be A Girl This Time? Couple With 13 Sons Are Expecting Again
Jay and Kateri Schwandt are expecting their 14th child and when their friends and relatives heard the big news, they only had one question: will they have a baby girl this time around?
However, the couple, who are already parents to 13 boys, is not too worried about the sex of their baby. Speaking to TODAY Parents, Kateri said:
For us, it is about the baby, about the miracle of life. It's not about having a girl.
The couple revealed that they are considering stopping after this child is born. They are excited about his/her arrival but they told TODAY, "we are beginning to feel like we might be done after this."
Jay and Kateri got married as soon as they completed high school and they were both in college when they had their first child. And as Jay began attending law school and Kateri earned a Master's in Psychology, the pair kept growing their family.
This meant that by the time they settled down and began building their careers, they had already had six children.
The parents have no problem with this situation at all. They revealed that they had always wanted a big family. At first, that meant about 6 or 7 kids but as time went on, they realised that they actually enjoyed having a lot of kids.
While most people would be wondering about finances or their ability to give each child enough attention at this point, Jay and Kateri said somehow, they never felt burdened by their children.
We never felt maxed out. If we ever felt like we couldn't give each child all the attention he needs or provide financially for them, we wouldn't have done it.
Their kids are Tyler (25), Zach (22), Drew (20), Brandon (18), Tommy (16), Vinny (15), Calvin (13), Gave (11), Wesley (9), Charlie (7), Luke (6), Tucker (4), Francisco (2).
Last Spring, when they found out that they were expecting, Kateri admitted that being pregnant at 43 is a lot more challenging than when she was younger. The fatigue set in much earlier this time around but she can't wait to meet her little one.
On how they have been managing things around the house, she revealed that her older children are helpful when it comes to caring for the younger ones.
"It really helps that we have several extra drivers around," Kateri said.
Love or hate the concept of a big family, we bet there's never a dull moment in the Schwandt household.
