Santa Gets Down On The Floor To Play With Autistic Boy

Date December 13, 2017

It's the festive season and beautiful Christmas stories like these are always worth celebrating over and over again.

A lot of kids look forward to meeting with Santa Claus and telling him what gifts they would like. Usually, the line at the mall and the excitement of kids are one of the many reasons children thrive on those visits. However, for autistic kids, all the noise and the colours can be very intimidating. In fact, a lot of children with autism do not do the Santa visits due to the discomfort.

However, one mall Santa made sure that all the kids, including the ones with developmental challenges, got to have a merry Christmas.

Erin Deely's son Brayden was diagnosed with autism at the age of three. But the mother refused to let this keep him from having a good time and enjoying the same things other kids did.

So, during Christmas season in 2015, she brought her boy to a Caring Santa event in North Carolina. The event was specially organised for special needs family who did not want to miss out on the festivities.

Erin said she knew her son would not have been able to handle all the noise and the pressure to interact with Santa but Caring Santa was created so that parents do not have to miss out on getting those holiday photos.

When it was Brayden's turn to meet Santa, he tentatively approached the chair. However, the awesome Santa sensed that he was uncomfortable so instead of waiting and possibly adding more pressure on the boy, he got down to the ground and began to play with him.

This beautiful moment was captured by Erin whose heart warmed at how much fun her boy was having. She said;

Oh my gosh, to be able to do something that other families do . . . Normally a lot of things are harder for us as a family, and we got to do the same tradition as everyone else — we just do it on the floor.

It truly was incredible of Santa Claus to do all he could to make Brayden more comfortable and happier even if it meant laying on the floor. This really is what Christmas is all about.
