When contractions started, she felt absolutely fine. She brushed them away as nothing serious. Perhaps they were just typical menstrual cramps. She thought they were!
For the whole day, Ally Opher was busy with her usual routine. She went to coach her cheerleader group for a basketball game, and then a few hours later helped her dad to move some furniture. But as time went on, her condition was getting worse.
When the severe cramps hit her hard, she was in terrible pain, seriously scared for her health. But she refused to go to hospital anyway, hoping it would pass. Well, it didn’t.
The next moment Ally’s mom was driving her to the closest hospital, while Ally was literary screaming from pain.
After some tests, the doctor still did not realize that Ally was in labor. When the cramps started again she did a pregnancy test just in case but it showed negative.
There was a suspicion about kidney stones. As her blood pressure was insanely high, Ally’s health and life were already in danger. Then the doctor did an ultrasound and his face changed from focused and slightly worried to confused and astonished.
He said, ‘Well, it looks like you’re about 38 weeks pregnant and 10 centimeters dilated. You are in full blown labor and we need to get you upstairs to labor and delivery now!!!’
Ally’s baby boy was born healthy - he cried and so did the whole family. The mother was in denial, shaking from anesthesia and stunned by this miracle pregnancy and labor.
She was not ready for a baby at all.
Oliver David Opfer came into this world on December 23, 2016. And even though he came as a huge surprise to his mother, he is still the best Christmas present she could have ever wished for!
