The musical icon who was born in 1942, has held a pretty successful career in music and filmmaking for six decades. The award-winning icon, who is also a wife and a mother is just as famous for her personal life as she is for her work.

1. She was married once before.
Before marrying her current husband, James Brolin in 1998, she was married to actor, Elliot Gould. Their marriage, which began in 1963 ended in 1971. They have a child together, named Jason Gould.
2. She believes kindness is an important element in any marriage
While speaking about what has kept her marriage together, Streisand said:
You really have to pay attention to the other person and have kindness in your heart.
3. She discovered her son's musical talent when he was 15
Jason Gould was featured on one of her albums where he sang a rendition of Irving Berlin’s “How Deep Is the Ocean.” However, it took him many years to embrace his love and talent for music. In an interview with PEOPLE, Barbra shared the moment she discovered his musical skills.
When he was 15, I heard him through the door, and I brought it up that the humming was such a beautiful sound. He said, ‘Mom, just go away!'
4. She met James Brolin on a blind date
In a 2016 interview for W Magazine, Streisand revealed that she and James were set up on a blind date.
I met him at a dinner and expected a bearded mountain-man type, and he had cut off all his hair and was clean-shaven. I asked him, “Who screwed up your hair?” He later told me that’s when he fell in love with me. My fella likes to hear the truth, which is unusual.
5. She does not sing in the shower
You may have expected that such a lovely singer will want to sing anywhere and at any time. But she revealed to W Magazine that she never sings without a reason. "I never sing unless it’s for a purpose, like fundraising or making a record," she said.
6. Streisand and her husband have a separate bank account
For most couples, one of the first things they do after getting married is to join finances but James Brolin believes going the opposite route is what keeps their marriage strong. Brolin once told HuffingtonPost, "I have my own money and she has her own money.” He added:
This is my third marriage, and I know what trouble can come out of marriage, so I didn’t want any reason that I would ever have to be either divorced or married again.
7. She is very proud of her son's musical achievements
For a long time, Jason Gould held back on showing the world his musical talents because he was afraid of being compared to his mother. In a promo video for one of his singles, he said:
I started exploring singing and music late in life. It was not something I really thought I would ever do because my mother’s such an icon. I thought, "I can’t open my mouth. People would compare me and I just didn’t think I’d ever want to go there.
But Barbra was nothing short of impressed and proud of her son. "It was jaw-dropping. Where has this been?" she said when she listened to one of his songs.
