10 Great Remedies For Varicose Veins That You Can Do At Home

Varicose Veins refer to the enlarged veins that appear close to the skin surface. Most people notice them in their calves and thighs. It affects more women than men and can be, at the very least, uncomfortable.

Apart from the fact that it can cause pain, fatigue, burning feelings, tingling or a feeling of heaviness in the legs, the appearance of these bulging veins can be unsightly.

While there are many medical treatments for varicose veins, they can get pretty expensive. But there are some inexpensive home remedies that can help reduce discomfort and even improve the appearances of the bulging veins.

1. Apple cider vinegar

This is a great remedy for varicose veins. It contains components that can help improve blood flow and reduce heaviness/swelling.

Apply some of the vinegar on the skin of the affected area and massage gently. Do this daily before bedtime and then again in the morning.

2. Cayenne pepper

This also increases blood circulation. Add one teaspoon of cayenne pepper to a cup of hot water. Stir the mixture well and drink three times a day.

3. Olive oil

Mix equal amounts olive oil with some vitamin E oil and warm slightly. Massage the affected veins for a few minutes. This should be done twice daily.

4. Garlic

Slice up six cloves and put in a clean jar. Add the juice of three oranges and two teaspoons of olive oil into the jar. After you've allowed the mixture to sit for about 12 hours, shake the jar. Put a few drops on the veins and massage for about 15 minutes. For better result, wrap the area with a cloth and leave overnight.

5. Butcher's broom

This herb helps to reduce inflammation and improve skin elasticity. You can take about 100mg of butcher's broom supplements thrice daily. Keep in mind that people with high blood pressure or benign prostate hyperplasia should consult a doctor first before taking this herb.

6. Witch hazel

This is another effective herb for battling varicose veins. Simply soak a cloth in the witch hazel and place it on the affected area. This can be done two to three times a day.

7. Horse chestnut seeds

These have been known to treat varicose veins symptom in the short term. You can either purchase the horse chestnut seeds gel (which you rub on the affected area twice daily) or the supplements (300mg twice daily.) Raw horse chestnut should be avoided. It is also not recommended for pregnant or nursing women.

8. Parsley

Pour a handful of them in a cup of water then boil for five minutes. Allow the solution to cool then strain out the liquid. Add a drop of rose and a drop of marigold essential oils. Afterward, leave in the fridge for several minutes. Then use a cotton ball to massage the affected area with the solution. Do this daily.

9. Grapevine leaves

Pour four cups of water in a cup of grapevine leaves and boil for about 10 to 15 minutes. Bring it to cool for several minutes. Pour the mixture into a bucket to soak your feet in. Do this for five minutes.

Then place your feet in another bucket filled with cold water for ten seconds. Repeat by going back and forth three to four times then end with the cold water soak.

Massage your legs with castor oil then place them in an elevated position for a few minutes.

10. Marigold

Add a cup of these flowers to four cups of water then boil for five minutes. Using a cotton cloth, soak in the solution and place on the affected area. Leave it in one spot until the cloth cools. Do this several times a day.

In addition to these remedies, it is also important for you to do such exercises as walking, bicycling or swimming as they help prevent varicose veins.
