Study Shows That Having A Sister Can Make A Person Happier
When most people think about siblings, they imagine roughhousing or having to fight over toys. But as it turns out, having a sister can make you a happier person overall.
Some researchers from De Montfont and Ulster Universities, UK, discovered that having a female sibling can raise your mood and make you more optimistic about life. The researchers who conducted the study asked 571 people between the ages of 17 and 25 to fill out a questionnaire about their mental health.

From the conclusion of the study, they discovered that those people with sisters were more likely to report feeling contented with their lives than those who did not have sisters.
The lead researcher, Professor Tony Cassidy, explained that, for most people, having sisters led to a more open communication and bonding within the family. Being able to express yourself emotionally is very important for a good psychological health and having sisters help to promote this type of communication and expression within families.

So, what happens in the case of people with brothers instead of sisters? Well, unfortunately, the study's conclusion showed an opposite effect from that of having sisters. Cassidy explained that the fact that boys have a natural tendency to not be very verbally communicative about issues may be the cause of this negative result.
"With boys together it is about a conspiracy of silence not to talk. Girls tend to break that down,” Cassidy explained.
However, having brothers do not automatically mean you're doomed, The study discovered that having a brother or sister made you a kinder person over overall.
So, the next time your sister borrows your clothes without asking, gets you in trouble with your folks or push your buttons until you are about to lose it, remember, she may the reason for that smile on your face and contentment in your heart.
