But sometimes our bodies work in incredible ways. The youngest mother ever recorded will make you shout with surprise. Lina Medina, at just 5 years old, gave birth to her son Gerardo.
It happened in Pisco, Peru, the parents of a small girl thought she had a tumor in her stomach, but when they arrived at the hospital, the doctor gave them the shocking news.
What seemed to be a large tumor appeared to be a baby bump. Lina was 7 months pregnant. On May 14th she gave birth to a baby boy through caesarian section.
The surgery was performed by Dr. Lozada and Dr. Busalleu, with Dr. Colareta providing anesthesia. This case of a young mother was reported in detail in the medical journal La Presse Médicale.
Sounds incredible, but such an early pregnancy could be possible due to Lina’s inborn rare condition called “precocious puberty”.
She developed physically very early, at 2 years old she had her first menstruation and pelvic widening; her breasts were fully formed by the age of 5.
It is still unknown how Lina got pregnant. Her father was suspected of rape but was released due to lack of proof.
Gerardo thought Lina was his older sister. Only when he turned 10 did he find out she was his mother.
Now Lina Medina is 83, and her son Gerardo passed away at the age of 40. Even now she refuses to open her past and reveal the hard truth. This case is unbelievable and disturbing at the same time.
